Raffaello used in a bathroomVenetian Plaster is sometimes known as Polished Plaster, Marble Plaster, Stucco Veneziano and Marmorino Plaster. It is the application of thin layers of plaster. This is then either polished to produce a beautiful marble look and feel as in Raffaello and finitura or left with a matte finish or granular texture as in marmorino or stone look as in Travertino. It was perfected by the Romans but after the end of the empire marble dust was not used in plaster until it became the rage during the Renaissance.

Venetian Plaster can be used internally and externally. It is ideal for bathrooms and kitchens as it is fully waterproof and it is very easy to clean. It can even be used inside the shower cubicle. The material has natural properties which prevent mould, mildew and bacteria build up. It is also non allergenic and non toxic.

"It can even be used inside the shower cubicle."

As an alternative to stone venetian plaster can be used in flooring instead of flags, tiles as it is hugely versatile and can be used on practically any surface. The travertino (in the picture below) looks fantastic as a floor covering.
